Kuningan
Kuningan

Kuningan Day roughly takes place 10 days after the Galungan celebrations. Offerings and prayers are conducted at temples and shrines before noon. The ceremony surrounding Kuningan refers to special offerings made of yellow turmeric rice. Yellow is also the colour of the god Wisnu, the protector of the Hindu trinity.

The Bali Arts Festival is a cultural treat for lucky visitors who are in Bali until mid July. The festival traditionally starts on the second Saturday of June and runs through the month of July. It is the perfect moment to witness Bali’s wealth of performing arts together with various cultural highlights from other islands in Indonesia. As one of the main highlights in Bali’s calendar of events, the annual celebration features various artworks and cultural achievements, inviting locals and international visitors to the Taman Werdhi Budaya Arts Centre in Denpasar where most of the daily exhibitions and art performances are focused.

The Bali Kites Festival is a series of kiting events that take place annually between July and August located in Padanggalak Beach, Sanur. Hundreds of competing kite troupes gather from all over the island to pilot their traditional kites, alongside international teams with modern kites in various shapes and sizes.

The Sanur Village Festival attracts large numbers of international visitors to this small coastal village east of Denpasar. The organizers put in much communal effort to make the annual event bigger by the year and feature an array of water sports activities in its week-long agenda, celebrating its coastal heritage. This year's festival is slated to feature a SanurRun, a Sanur Creative Expo, Agro tourism Expo, music performances and art, and a highly anticipated cultural street parade.

'Lively Legian Beach Festival' is held near the end of August, presenting an annual offering of fun activities, day and night. The festival will be set along the 700m long Legian beachfront, starting from the beach in front of The Stones Hotel and all up towards the Padma Resort. This year's event is organized by the Legian village community and is supported by the Indonesian Tourism Board, and will feature various games, competitions, exhibitions and bazaars over the course of four days.

The 14th Ubud Writers and Readers Festival returns to Bali October 25-29, 2017, with a new theme and banner reflecting this year’s festival theme of “Origins” in order to welcome the world’s leading authors, artists, thinkers and performers to the Island.

The second annual Bali Vegan Festival will be held in Ubud, featuring a three-day gathering with live bands, yoga workshops, eye-opening lectures, the world's best vegan food and everything vegans and health conscious people love. The festival will be held over two areas - the Paradiso Ubud indoor theater and at an outdoor space in the middle of rice paddies with activities, workshops and live music. Head there for their Friday opening party, welcoming not only vegans, but all who love eating healthy, doing yoga, dancing, and celebrating life.

One of the island's most notable temples is Sakenan on Serangan Island, which coincidentally celebrates its piodalan temple anniversary around the day of Kuningan with a series of festivities, sacred dances and flows of pilgrims from all over during its three-day celebrations

DECEMBER

Bali Beach Run 2017
Bali Beach Run

The Bali Beach Run returns in December with a new route, and an emphasis on a 'Fun Run' aspect, without the use of timing chips like in its previous years. Runners will leave the starting line at Petitenget Beach at 06:00 sharp, then run southwards along the coast before turning back towards Petitenget, depending on running category. Categories are: 2.5km family run, 5km fun run, and a full 10km run.

Although a predominantly Hindu island, Bali has communities of other religions. During Christmas time, Christian Balinese gather in their masses to unique churches that blend traditional Balinese architectural features. Among the most notable Balinese Protestant and Catholic communities are located in the villages of Palasari and Blimbingsari in West Bali.
